Shorten the Distance Between Interest and Decision

The longer a hiring process continues without feedback and forward movement, the greater the chance that a strong candidate will lose interest—or accept another opportunity.

Moving efficiently does not mean lowering your standards. In fact, speed works best when the standards are clearly established from the beginning.

Before starting a search, identify the skills and experience that are truly required, separate them from the preferences that can be developed and make sure everyone involved understands what success looks like. This prevents candidates from being evaluated against a different scorecard during every interview.

Communication matters just as much as scheduling. Candidates should understand where they are in the process, what comes next and when they can expect an update. Even when a final decision has not been made, clear communication helps preserve confidence and momentum.

A disciplined hiring process should answer three questions:

  • What are we looking for?

  • Who is responsible for the decision?

  • What needs to happen next?

When those answers are clear, companies can move faster without becoming careless.

The goal is not to hire quickly for the sake of hiring quickly. The goal is to remove unnecessary delays so the right decision can be made with confidence.
